ICC Cricket World Cup 2011

Pool (A) Match 03:

Srilanka Vs Canada:

Hambantota (20/02/2011):

Srilanka, one of the the co-host of 2011 world cup looked like a very competent side ,with a very mature batting line-up ,strong bowling attack & some brilliant fieldsman in their ranks ,all these attributes made them the ideal contenders for lifting the trophy in their home soil. They have completely outclassed the Canadian side in their opening game at Hambantota, after winning the toss & choosing to bat the host started the preceding in a slow & steady manner with Dilshan reaching another fifty, but the foundation of the innings was laid by 2 big guns of Srilankan Cricket ,skipper Kumar Sangakkar & Mahela Jayawardene when they both added 179 for the third wicket ,during the coarse of their innings Sangakkara got 2 chances when he was dropped on 12 & 48 while Mahela got twice lucky against the reviews by the Canadian captain, a sweltering Century by Mahela ,92 run knock by Sangakkara & a thrashing 21 by Mathews help Srilanka ended the innings at 332 for 7 in their 50 overs. Chasing a big target against one of the world’s best bowling attack is not an effortless job, Canadian batsman right from the start look uneven & scratchy against Perera’s Seam & Swing. Rizwan cheema, the highest scorer for Canada with 37, Skipper Ashish bagai 22 & Baiden with 16 were the only double-figure scores in Canadian Line-up, it was a humiliating 210 run defeat to Canada & Jayewardene was awarded the Man of the Match award
